The number of people who happen to be around multiple mass shootings, when the vast majority of us have never even been near one. It's almost unbelievable...

@steveb796 Your analogy ignores the stark differences between the two. School shootings happen randomly, in all different types of neighborhoods. Drive-by shootings tend to happen in the worst parts of large cities. Of course most people who have seen one drive-by will see multiple. They happen in the same places, over and over.

What is Washington going to do? The sheer number of homicidal people in this Country is mind blowing. Even if there was some magical way to do away with the more than half a billion guns in the US, it wouldn't change how murderous our people hwve become. Washington can't legislate morality. It's something that has to be done through parenting. Next time you're at a school function, take a good, long look at the other parents and ask yourself if you really think the majotity of them are instilling good values in their children. Chances are fair that you'll be looking at at least one parent of a future mass shooter in that crowd. We used to have machine guns and very few mass shootings. Now we have proposed bans on semi-autos and unending mass shootings. I think I'd lime to go back to the times of more freedom and less carnage, thanks.

@steveb796 If you're not talking about taking all the funs then you're not talking about making any difference. Only people who don't know anything about guns think you need an AR15 to kill a bunch of people. Hell, the Columbine killers used a couple of handguns a pistol carbine and a couple of shotguns. None had larger than ten round magazines. If you're not talking about banning all the guns, you're just posturing for the sake of it. How sad.

So much truth. We've gotten to a point where people are not just callous to murder, they're comfortable with it. Mass murder is commonplace. That's not a sentence that should ever be said, yet here we are. If we can't find common ground, we're doomed.

Cool. Let's say we go ahead and ban all guns tomorrow. There are currently about 650 million guns in the US. Not on store shelves or in warehouses. That's 650 million guns in homes and on the streets. Let's go ahead an pretend that you can get people to turn in 150 million of those guns (and believe me, I'm being generous). That's 500 million guns circulating and now everyone who has one is a felon. Overnight, you've created the exact conditions to start a civil war...AND you didn't even make a dent in the number of guns out there. Gun control in the US is a fantasy. The guns have been here since we were British colonies. Why, then, are mass shootings ramping up at this point in history? In the early 80s and prior, we had easy access to actual automatic weapons (not the pretender semi-autos we have now) and we didn't have this insane number of mass shootings. Weird, huh? It's almost as though the guns aren't the actual cause of the violence. As soon as people stop pretending they can do anything about the guns, we can start the real work. Once we start looking at the things that have caused so many people to get comfortable with mass murder, then we can start addressing those things and turn the tide. Until that happens, it will just be more pain, followed by more clamoring for asinine "solutions" that won't change anything.
