The fact that this one was so sensationalized (as well as each one proceeding it) is the reason it has become so common. Suddenly, there was a way for angry teens with violent urges to become immortalized. Rather than quietly kill themselves, the Dylan Klebolds of the world now want to take a dozen kids with them. Rather than get into a drunken encounter with police and end up shot, the Eric Harris' of the world now want to take it out on everything that moves. They draw inspiration and even a sense of justification from the previous shooters. A while back, the news started reporting about the suicide problem in the US. The more they reported on it, the more the suicide rate increased. When they finally stopped running stories about suicide in every broadcast, the suicide rate started dropping back down. Anyone who profits off of stories like these are profiting off of the deaths of the future victims they help create.
