They kept the rear door shape of the JL so that there would be tons of door options available for the Gladiator from day one. Any aftermarket JL doors will fit on the Gladiator. It's a huge bonus when you don't have to wait for the aftermarket to catch up to a new vehicle design. I know someone who actually started buying his aftermarket parts before he could even buy a Gladiator, because so much was already available (due to it essentially being a JL from the doors, forward).
