@UC611c474kHhKHINdU5HXQeA I have a box of blanks in my garage. They don't have any wadding. They're filled with powder and then the end of the casing is crimped tight, to keep the powder in. When fired, the crimp in the casing opens up and the escaping gasses (and fire) exit through the barrel. Now, if we're talking about shotgun blanks, that can be a different story but the projectile is usually a cardboard shot card.

@flyguyry1 A firearms expert on a movie set wouldn't allow live ammunition to be on set. They know they are solely responsible for anything that happens with those firearms. If there was an expert there, (s)he's now on the hook for negligent homicide.
