  1. Car companies have been competing since the early 1900's. The prices haven't dropped. Coke and Pepsi have been duking it out for decades and a 20 oz costs almost $2 in any (competing) convenience store. In a true Capitalist society, competition would make prices drop. Corporate America got sick of that game, so they stopped abiding by the rules of true Capitalism. Shareholders, back room deals and unspoken "understandings" let them work together to screw us out of our money. They still compete with each other but not like they would if they had any respect for the consumer.

  2. Or people will simply go back to pirating content, if the content providers make it prohibitively expensive to access content. If your product isn't worth the price you're asking for it, people won't pay. The difference is, digital content can't be stolen. Only duplicated. If they really want to tango again, there will be plenty of people filling their dance card.
