Wood is a renewable resource. Steel and concrete require strip-mining the Earth and destroying the air for everyone and everything in the vicinity. So, you're right. It IS nice that he was environmentally conscious enough to make his house out of wood.

Wood is a renewable resource. Iron ore and limestone (for steel and concrete) are not. They are strip-mined. Nothing clean about that. While our dedicated lumber groves are regrowing and taking in carbon dioxide, rock quarries/mines are pumping out carbon dioxide and other toxins into the air. Visit a rock quarry some time and see how logical your choice is for the future of this planet.

Owain Harris Wood is incredibly renewable. You rotate your groves to replenish the soil - it's called farming. We have more paper and lumber than ever before and the VAST majority of it comes from groves that exist specifically for that purpose. Furthermore, even if you were right (you're not), you'd still be comparing "somewhat renewable" to "not at all renewable." There's no contest. My house is made of wood and was built in 1903. Many brick homes in the area have seen significant degradation but my house (along with many other wood frame houses in the area) is still standing strong. The concrete foundation crumbled and had to be re-poured and the wood house is still standing. Wood IS the superior framing material for houses. There are few places where this rule does not apply. We've even seen a boom in the reuse of lumber from houses and barns to make everything from furniture to fences, to pretty much anything else that can be made from wood. How many reclaimed brick coffee tables have you seen? Wood wins. All day, every day.

I love the "No, no. The working class can do this, too!" comments. No, they can't. The majority of working class people RENT their homes. Even if they have a landlord who is willing to allow it, they're most likely not going to pay for it. I don't know of too many people who are willing to put thousands of dollars into a rental. That's just a good way to have your landlord throw you out afterward, so he can charge the next tenants more rent to live in a utility-free home. The rich get richer. Same story, new chapter.

Rich people gonna rich. Never going to stop the elitists from demanding the rest of us do the things that they, themselves are unwilling to do.
