Kentucky is one of the poorest states. California is by far the wealthiest. California is number six and Kentucky isn't even on the list. Even poor people can get an education, if their state puts focus on it. It turns out that dusty, old textbooks work better than iPads, and blackboards work better than projector screens... when you actually teach the students, instead of letting them do whatever they want.

We've got a ton of colleges for a reason. It's not because there are a bunch of people from out of state who have always dreamed of going to college in, say, Berea. There are plenty of locals keeping those schools open. No surprise about California, though.

I'm gonna go ahead and posit that you've never lived in California. Of all the places I've lived, I've never seen a state have so many language options for virtually everything in their schools. If you think any of the Spanish speaking students are having to take these tests in English, you're kidding yourself.

@jsch9173 California has by far the highest GDP of any state. It's higher than all but the top four countries in the world. California can afford to do better with their public school system, yet they're ranked 29th in the country. Meanwhile, Kentucky is 28th in GDP and is ranked 17th in public education. California would have to surpass 12 states to beat Kentucky in public school education. That's inexcusable.

Kentucky has at least one college in virtually every moderate to large town/city. That's not fiscally possible without a good number of students going on to college after high school. Since Kentucky (other than UK and EKU) isn't exactly a hotspot for out-of-state enrollment, it stands to reason that plenty of Kentuckians go on to college. California is no surprise, though. If you've ever walked around downtown in any major, coastal city, your ears will ring with all of the asinine conversations going on around you. It hurts to think about how many of those people can vote.

@worldobserver3515 I feel you on that. It's getting ridiculous.

@shells500tutubo Apparently, my response got remived by YouTube's new nanny bots. Essentially, the data is fine. There are plenty in california bringing down the average. One has to have spent time there to have seen it.

@wa1ufo ...and Californians.

@Wisconsin_Local_139_Crane_Guy You have no idea how ironic your statement is, with that sentence structure.

That was a pretty sad attempt at defending California, bud. The vast majority of the people in California are over on the "more intelligent" coast. If everyone inland ate paste and finger painted with their toes, it wouldn't be enough to bring down the average. Tell the truth. You know you've walked the boardwalk (doesn't matter which one) and listened to the sheer stupidity falling out of people's heads as they pass by. There is a very good reason California is on this list and the majority of it is on the coast.

The delicious irony of that sentence...

@shells500tutubo Anyone who has ever sat on a boardwalk, listening to the vapid conversations being had by those walking by, knows that California has more than its fair share of nimrods. OH EM GEE! LIKE...TOTALLY?! It's not just a stereotype used by Hollywood. The vast number of complete airheads in California is nothing short of astonishing.

@angelachouinard4581 Oh, I know. A great school with an awesome backstory.

@SergioGonzalez-ew2po Still not number six.

@robertstanford1778 Sounds like sour grapes. Which number was your state?

I'd love to watch Briggs' head spin trying to keep up with a good HVAC technician who is explaining the ins and outs of a properly running system. I think you were surprised about the real estate agent thing because you mistakenly think that takes more intelligence than being a HVAC tech or a sheet metal worker. I guess you forgot that the majority of real estate agents are bored housewives who never got more than a public high school education.
