12 deaths with Omicron. They haven't confirmed that a single one was actually caused by Omicron. Nor can I find any numbers on how many of those deaths were vaccinated.

@heyaisdabomb Go ahead with the vaccine passports, I won't need one. I'll just claim to be an illegal immigrant. I'm in California, so nothing bad will happen to me. I'll be allowed to walk around laughing at all of the "free" Americans who don't have it as easy as me.

@findingmo7049 60% of the US is vaccinated. 80% of Omicron cases in the US are vaccinated. Omicron already accounts for more than 73% of cases in the US. So far, they won't tell us how many Omicron cases are people with boosters but I'm willing to bet it's high, if they're not shouting it from the rooftops. Now, the SA and UK data can help us a lot. The US is a melting pot with a wide range of different people, climates, and geography. Taking data from different regions can only help us know what we're in for. So far, Omicron is taking over in every Country it hits, cases are increasing and, on a long enough timeline (that isn't very long at all), hospitalizations, severe cases, and deaths are decreasing. Basically, we're all going to get Omicron, get it soon, survive it, and get that good immunity boost. This should push Delta out pretty quickly, since virtually all of us will be equipped to fight it off (not that it's a big threat to the general populous already, but free immunity is better than none). After this, we're likely to see COVID-19 turn into a seasonal cold within a year (though, I'd wager closer to six months). It will survive and even thrive by not killing us. We'll just take an extra day or two of sick leave every year.

@Mary44430 So, you're saying that frat boys have more integrity than typical news pundits, in that they're actually willing to ask the things they want answers to - rather than dancing around the obvious for the sake of the narrative? Yeah, that actually fits. Frat boys definitely have more integrity than most news pundits at this point.

@xyPERSON How about an honest answer to the death toll? Maybe something like "While there have been about a dozen cases of people dying who had Omicron, they've yet to prove that Omicron is responsible for those deaths. This is good news either way you look at it because it means that, worst case, we've only lost a dozen people to Omicron, so far." How exactly is that confusing or misleading?

@yvettebowles9011 Right now there are about 14 verified deaths with Omicron in the UK. With is the important word, here. They have not verified a single case in which Omicron is actually responsible for the death. Just people who died and had some amount of the disease in their body at the time. Dr. Campbell missed this important subtlety yesterday and today. There are zero confirmed deaths from Omicron.

That's because it's all she has. If she tells people that the vast majority of people who are catching Omicron are vaccinated, she'll have a harder time selling them on a booster. The fact is, at this point, getting vaccinated/boosted probably won't help. It takes two weeks after a shot for you to be at peak immunity (still not fully immune). With the way this variant is blowing through the population, a shot probably won't have time to do anything. Truth be told though, it doesn't look like it will do anything, anyway. 60% of the US is vaccinated. 80% of Omicron cases in the US are among the vaccinated. Quick math says that Omicron isn't just unaffected by the vaccine. It kinda looks like it's attracted to it.

@Surrealitivity I'm gonna need your source link for claiming that Omicron is only mild in the vaccinated and those who have "strong" immune systems. Also, what does that mean to you? Are you aware that the vast majority of people have strong immune systems? If so, that means you're saying that the vast majority of people have nothing to fear from Omicron...which is true. Maybe I misunderstood and you're actually agreeing with OP.

@hojo70 The answer to his first question is that there are zero confirmed cases of Omicron being responsible for anyone's death. There have been about a dozen cases of people dying while having Omicron in their system but no evidence that Omicron was the cause or even a factor in said deaths. That's the answer to the question right now. He didn't ask how many people will die tomorrow, so no, it's not a moving target. It's a request for the current data.

@jaybruce6974 He's walking that line because he still wants to be broadcasting tomorrow. Unfortunately, people like the CDC Director here get protection from the higher ups in these "news" corporations. He pushed harder than anyone I've seen and then would roll back into placating her with what you could tell was sarcasm. Even him putting his mask on at the end was clearly him clowning on her. It was great. If he gets to keep this up, I might just give CNBC another chance. If he gets fired, I'll be looking for him on another station.
