  1. Software updates have to go through dealerships in many States, where they exist. Tesla has no dealerships, so they get to do direct updates. If the other car companies want to dissolve their partnerships with all of their third-party dealerships and have the same showroom style sales as Tesla, they can do direct updates, too.
