So wait. You want to ban ARs and AKs because of what they CAN do (but typically don't) and keep handguns because they're not as capable as ARs and AKs......even though handguns are responsible for the VAST majority of gun crimes? Okay. I want to ban Lamborghinis and Ferraris. They are capable of evading high speed pursuit. Granted, the majority of speeding incidents and traffic accidents involve Hondas and Toyotas but that doesn't matter. Why do we need these guns? Because they were banned for a decade and it made no difference. Why should we continue to restrict the ownership of something that, when it was restricted previously, had absolutely no effect on the amount of people who died?

It would be interesting to compare this to the very common instance of people becoming more conservative as they get older. I would be interested to find out if people tend to be more "liberal minded" when younger, due to the need to gain more information quickly as we develop, and then become more "conservative minded" once they feel they have gained enough information to live their lives. That's my theory, anyway.

@Icarus Loved If that were the case, I would imagine people would become more Liberal as they age. Fear of a competitive Capitalist society would make someone want more social safety nets, not fewer.

@Icarus Loved Who is talking about Socialism? I'm not referring to the last five minutes of history, when everyone has drawn their lines around "Socialism" vs Trump Naziism" or whatever other extreme claims people are making. I'm talking about actual Liberalism and Conservatism. We have had various social safety nets in this Country for a long, long time. They were not heavily referred to as Socialism, Communism, etc throughout most of our history. Now, that being said, if people were becoming more and more afraid of their Capitalist society as they grew older, the pattern would be exactly reversed. People would become more Liberal out of defense of their own interests. They haven't done that. They go the opposite direction. People who are more Liberal to start end up being more Conservative. It doesn't make sense to claim that's because people are afraid of Capitalism.

@theaviationist.5719 That would be a good point, if we were talking about geriatrics. However, people tend to start becoming more conservative as early as their late twenties to early thirties. That really doesn't jibe with your "old and frail" theory.
