  1. "It's not a perfect analogy." You're right, it's a deeply flawed analogy. Parent and adoptive parent are not antonyms. They do not exist at the opposite ends of a binary (or a spectrum, if you need to lie to yourself). One is a stand-in for the other. A man is an adult human male. A woman is an adult human female. They're not interchangeable.
