It's pretty simple, really. He was the Democrat candidate. 70% of California voters vote Democrat. Plus, he had already been Lieutenant Governor to Moonbeam and Mayor of SF, so he was "The name you know." Next he'll be aiming for the presidency. God help us.

Income taxes are taken out of your pay before you get your check. Sales tax is factored in at the register. If you don't pay your property tax, the state will take your home. It's fun to say "Stop paying taxes!" but for the vast majority, it's not actually possible.

@donnahalsted7718 Another person who has never had a job. Most people can't stop paying taxes. Taxes are taken out of you paycheck by the company for which you work. You can say "Hey, stop taking taxes out of my payxheck!" and they'll laugh at you. When you're old enough to have your first job, you'll find out what I'm talking about, firsthand.

@donnahalsted7718 Again, you seem to be missing the point, entirely. The only way for the majority of people to stop paying taxes is to quit their jobs. Taxes are collected automatically from people's regular pay. They don't physically possess that money at any point. Therefore, they cannot withhold it. This seems like something a legitimate business owner would know. Makes me think you might be telling tall tales.

@donnahalsted7718 What an incredibly irrelevant comment. Nobody is talking about taxing thoughts.

How do people not understand that this is on purpose? These politicians aren't actually stupid. They're being very specific. They're only doing this in the fast food industry. Why? Because it allows them to pander to the simpletons who vote for them while burying only the fast food companies. They keep getting elected by those who love them for doing this. Meanwhile, when all of the fast food companies go under, they get to claim they were responsible for making Californians "healthier." If they actually thought this was a fiscally viable plan, they would be doing it for healthcare workers, grocery store clerks, etc. They know it won't work out, so they're protecting those who they actually need.
