  6. If you have a decent employers and or private pension you will have retired much earlier and the State Pension is just something extra.If you think you can exist solely on the State Pension, you can't.

  8. State Pension age and retirement age in the UK are very different. Most employers pension now begin at 55, so if like me you are offered redundancy and can afford to do so, there is no need to work again. If you think you can live on the State Pension alone, you can't.

It's important that everyone plans for their retirement by having either a Private pension or Company pension which will become payable very much earlier. I retired at 50 and my employment pension was immediately payable, but I had to wait until 66 to get my State Pension. If you think it's possible to live on the State Pension alone, it's not.
