Dealing appropriately with those who suffer with severe mental health issues is something very few people are suitably trained or qualified to do. This officers behaviour was clearly inappropriate and thankfully he is no longer with the Police.

A US lawyer isn't qualified to act in the UK, so what good is that.

If I was unfortunate enough to be the victim of a terror attack, I would be very pleased to see the thugs with clubs and even more so those with guns. Sadly this officer's behaviour was grossly inappropriate.

Civil actions are not only very expensive but the person you are taking the action against must have sufficient assets otherwise it's just a costly waste of time.

Rightly so, but I imagine your barrister would claim that you suffered from temporary insanity or you felt your life and that of others was in danger. Dealing appropriately with those with severe mental health issues is not something the Police are trained for. Apart from anything each case is different and medical professionals spend years in training. Just ask yourself what you would do in a similar situation, how would you even know that the person was genuine and perhaps not high on drugs ? I wouldn't want their job at any price.

To some extent yes thats true and they are but what you suggest is far too simplistic. Police officers are ordinary people, they can only be trained in the basics of the huge number of diverse and complex situations they may encounter only once in their career. I wouldn't want their job at any price.
