  2. You seem to be under the illusion that business has a code of morality, it doesn't. They have a contract of employment that details precisely how their remuneration is calculated. Does a footballer deserve £10m a year ?

  5. Have you ever heard of "cost vs benefit" ? Put simply there is a point beyond which the cost of improvement is more than the financial benefit it achieves. Sometimes it's cheaper to pay for your mistakes than fix the problem.

  6.  @koolerking440  The company is owned by the shareholders, so obviously they would reward themselves and those who generated those returns for them. Ironically UK Pension funds, like the ones most working people pay into every month, are massive shareholders in many business.

  13. It's no different in any other private company. The market determines the price of everything, even people. Why should a footballer get paid £10m, simple its the going rate for someone with specific talents.

  18. Customers don't own the company, shareholders do and it's for their benefit that the company is in business. This may include fixing some leaks when it's financially beneficial to do so.

  20. Have you never had a contract of employment ? All aspects of remuneration and performance will included and agreed by both the company and the executive prior to them commencing employment. Attaching a monetary value to someones job is determined by the market. Is a footballer worth £10m a year ?

  21.  @coppershark1973  Clearly they are considered to be exceptional people and as Im sure you are aware the market determines the price. Why is someone who can kick a ball paid millions ? Simple, its the going rate !

  25. How would you propose to pay for it, particularly at a time when the country is entering a period of recession. It's ironic that many of those who are demonising perceived shareholder greed are paying into Pension Funds that invest in these same companies.

  27. A bonus is for meeting your target, although it may be increased to reflect the amount of over achievement. I had a job which paid a salary and a bonus, it's not uncommon.
