  3. The Government didn't increase energy prices, the energy providers did in response higher wholesale prices. Prior to the price cap being increased, several smaller energy suppliers went out of business. If the cap wasn't raised more would and what business wants to operate at a loss ? You could nationalise, but then taxes would need to be increased to pay for the subsidy required to keep prices low.
