We have a generation, perhaps two generations who have never experienced anything other than ultra low interest rates. Rates must increase substantially and by far larger increments than we previously seen.

Recession is simply negative growth in the economy. Growth is the result of increased consumption. Why is it necessarily a bad bad thing ? People who work from home spend less than those who are office based but their quality of life is improved.

Easier said when done when the cause is supply rather than demand. Put simply we are experiencing the wrong type of inflation.

True, the B of E is 80% plus unable to curb our present inflation. As you correctly mention we are experiencing the wrong type of inflation, a difficult concept for many to understand. I have my own plan to lessen the impact, i'm sure you do to.

Labours track record for financial competence is hardly inspiring. Las time they were in power, the bankrupted the country and 10 years of austerity followed.

Rates were cut from previous lows to almost nothing during the Pandemic in an effort to stimulate our economy which was absolutely the correct thing to do. Having most major economies coming out of Covid at the same time, together with the Ukraine situation caused massive supply problems which have been reflected in higher prices. As far as mortgages are concerned the majority of borrowers had the good sense to lock into fixed rate borrowing and are therefore cushioned for the time being.

Brexit on its own was perfectly manageable. Todays problem are far more complex, add in the Pandemic, the Russia Ukraine situation and a poor exchange rate.

Expressing inflation as a single figure isn't actually relevant to most people, it's their personal rate of inflation that's important which may encourage or force them to make different choices. There isn't a simple, one size fits all solution.
