Yes, it hasn't increased the rate of income tax, other by stealth, VAT or employees NI. Not reversing the Tories two employees NI cuts was probably their biggest mistake. Increasing employers NI to compensate is far more damaging.

@SpacedOdyssey Maybe you should see if there any state benefits you are entitled too, particularly if you are in poor health. Have you considered a lodger, under the "Rent a Room Scheme you can earn up to £7500 a year tax free. It more than pays all my utility bills.

You currently have as a basic rate taxpayer a tax free allowance of £1000 on savings before you pay tax.

@si_james If you are a pensioner who only gets the State pension, you can also receive interest from savings tax free to take your total income up to £18,570.
