  5. He was obviously a very capable and effective officer to have risen to such a senior position. Whilst his lies probably helped him in obtaining promotion to the highest level, they will not have been the only factor. Ironically he may have achieved just as much if he had told the truth. No doubt he will now have plenty of time to reflect on his foolishness.
