  1.  @johnrussell3961  Wages are just one of many costs to a business. The primary purpose of business is to make a profit for the business owner, whether that is an individual or shareholders. Labour like anything else has its market price, which is determined by many factors, primarily availability and skill level. Many companies operate profit sharing schemes, others pay bonuses which reflect performance.
