Most Barristers are self employed, so expenses will be tax deductible. With a decent accountant they can end up paying very little tax.

@elcristoph7380 True, but not all businesses have the ability to meet every increased cost, not just the cost of wages. I recall a customer who owned a large chain of shops that employed many people. After many stressful years he decided to sell his shops and work purely for himself from home. His income didn't change, he worked less and his quality of life improved.
