@genericjonathan4115 Well this is the same guy who did a video on how great Elon Musk is - when Elon Musk is clearly just a very wealthy bully - so yeah, he gets things wrong a fair amount.

@mycosys Yeah the guy at the end from Mythic talks about it and how they convert to digital before relaying to correct for noise and integrity. Not much detail for sure - however why you'd expect them to go into such detail on a pop-science Youtube video aimed at interested laypersons I don't know...

@neodragon1988 I don't doubt the competence of Space-X engineers, they are top class for sure.

He kinda lost me when he stated that the universe is homogenous - there is literally no evidence that this is the case - on every scale we have measured the universe has structure. He's kind of accepting existing subjective assumptions on anisotrophy, which don't currently have any observational evidence.
3
@seeminglynn7528 But there are structural variations in the CMB, so whilst the CMB is isotropic, the universe is not homogeneous - at least based on my understanding of the term - and thus we have the large scale structure - and every time we increase our observational scale, we find ever larger structures - so what exactly is expanding? Maybe it's just semantics and I'm not understanding his definition properly. I'm still lost unfortunately. Oh well I guess that's why I ended up pursuing computing instead of physics.

Meh, Veritasium is good for a lot of things, but they are very, very bad at biopics. Wouldn't trust too much about what is being said here - I mean they say he was "a bit of a jerk" - that's totally unnecessary.
2
@mycosys Lots of things make them impractical at least for general applications, and they do indeed point out a lot of them in the video. The point of the video was they may be useful for specific applications - or then again maybe not - but that's what people are trying to work out.

More on why Facebook's business model is both unsustainable and unethical.

Got the cylinder half right, so I'm giving myself a partial credit, I gave up on the running one because I couldn't calculate an answer but assumed there must be one and I was just too stupid to work it out, not that there was no answer, the train one was easy, and I experimented on the bike one and concluded it would go backwards since my bike did, but I guess that was cheating & also making the assumption that both bikes would behave the same. This was a lot of fun thanks!

Doesn't really matter what I like - all that matters is what is true - it seems to me we just don't know right now.

Whats with the minecraft orca?
1
Suck on that, ICP.

Please tell me you have extra footage of people that actually had some idea what you were talking about? If so, please post some of it up because the ignorance of the people on the street you interviewed is really depressing.
1
That's what I thought too, after seeing I was wrong with my prediction - I thought the apparent "difference" in the final energy state must come from less energy being lost due to friction and deformation - so really need to see the state of each block & bullet afterwards to confirm.

No more video responses after this month - Youtube are disabling the feature :-(

Yes, I am expanding with the universe... but my clothing is not...
1
No, that would be HO2 or O2H, which is not possible as there aren't enough electrons available to form the bond. You could have H2O2 - which is commonly known as hydrogen peroxide (peroxide in solution)
1
Sanitary engineer maybe? This episode made me profoundly sad at how ignorant some people are.

NZ got rid of the five cents too, of course our money is basically worthless to start off with.

I love how as soon as they realised fallout was moving across the Eastern US, they just went to the South Pacific, Arctic & Australia and poisoned the native populations there instead. Typical USA zero fucks given to the rest of the worlds people.
1
I know what you mean - how can people be so ignorant when this stuff should be taught at early highschool level science? I guess they just didn't care enough to pay any attention to what was going on?
1
Not going to judge you on one comment as I'm sure I've done similar myself, just pointing out that it was a pretty nasty one. Making people feel bad about their ignorance is a pretty good way to turn them off science - using their ignorance to get them curious as to how things really work is much better.

Wow, hard to believe all these "educated" westerners have not heard of Galileo and stick with Aristotle. How astoundingly bad are our schools?
1
By altering angle of attack - covered briefly in this video.
1
Yeah, it was very depressing.
1
Had to watch this one a few times to soak it in!

Clearly the jeans have been painted on.

What a fantastic and inspiring story. I'm a diver, never seen any large sharks whist diving, but it's something that's always on your mind.
