Fisker already went bankrupt in 2013 from their last half-baked over-priced electric car, so this is basically an attempt to return with another half baked over-priced electric car. What do they say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?
19
@fakamada These are both terrible cars - one is a German car assembled (badly) in Italy and pretending to be Italian, and the other is a Chinese car assembled in China pretending to be British.
17
I can just imagine doing a long road trip in the back of this - just snoozing and watching movies & enjoying cold beer - it'd be amazing.
14
Typical Mercedes these days unfortunately. The G series has always been pretty terribly built especially for one of the higher end models. Apparently most of them are assembled in Alabama which might explain it - not sure if that is true for the UK models though. I do dig the interior though, seems quite well thought out.

@markgt894 Hey, at least that boring samey box on wheels probably won't kill or maim for life anything it hits if it is travelling over 10mph, or come with rusting panels that don't fit properly from the factory.
8
Yup, none of that safety and speed warning systems defaulting to on are Kia's fault - that's all mandated by the EU in 2024 - and in fact the new Aston Martin DB12 is exactly the same! They are apparently having discussions about making it impossible to turn them off for 2025, according to Harry from Harry's garage anyway.
7
Lets just appreciate the level of stupid that someone thought it was a good idea to link the GPS to the engine management.
6
It's not a Lambo, it's a fancy Audi with Lambo badges on it. Also, the Lotus is not a Lotus, it's a fancy Geeley with Lotus badges on it. You'd have to be f*ck*ng mad to spend 6 figures on either of these two turkeys.
6
@fakamada The difference with MG is nobody except car enthusiasts remember MG - they were out of production for 20 years, and in most markets, you couldn't even buy one for the last 40 years, and they had been junk for longer than that. Also the Chinese MG's are actually really good value for money. Lotus is a performance icon, now Geeley has bought it so they can use it to sell overpriced & under-developed Chinese junk to western idiots. Pretty clear from how messed up this car was the entire way through the racing that it is based on a Geeley platform and Geeley electronics that aren't suitable for a performance car. Good for them if it works though - a fool and their money as they say.
6
And when everyone is super... nobody will be.
5
Meanwhile Audi and Mercedes bought a shipload of army surplus sensors made in 1988, and by god, they will use them all!
5
@matthewcooley1571 Wow, what is going on in the US with Kia prices? The Niro EV starts at $69,995 NZD here, the Model 3 starts at $75,900. The top of the line Niro is $75,990, the top of the line Model 3 is over $110,000 - so the Niro is much cheaper here - and indeed you see that on the roads - I'd see 2 or 3 Kia and Hyundai EV's for every 1 Model 3. I'm guessing it'll be Orange Man tariffs at play in the US making them so much pricier?
4
It's insane that the GPS is tied to the engine management! And that the GPS is so unreliable and/or intrusive. Guessing that's some bonkers EU mandated speed management nonsense? Combined with Audi level reliability electronics...
4
Given this car is full footballer spec, I'm sure it'll see plenty of hard blowing.
4
Are they not even common with other Toyota/Lexus models on the same platform of the same era?
3
@The-Celestial No, it's not - not for the Eletre R anyway. They might do a bit of suspension tuning, but the platform is the Geeley SEA architecture - it's 100% Chinese designed and manufactured. Geeley try to pretend the architecture was designed in conjunction with their Swedish "subsidiary", Volvo - but that's just more spin - it's 100% Chinese - it just made financial sense to do it that way. Geeley are in the business of buying previously prestigious names and using them to over-charge for Chinese quality vehicles. If you are happy paying European prices for Chinese products, then no problem and all good for you. I mean, lets face it, Chinese stuff is probably better than European stuff at this point - but you can also get Chinese stuff much cheaper if you don't buy it with the fake European badge slapped on it.
3
Except the Hilux would stand up to it.
3
@MoakeyDoke The RB sounds better - but that's about all it's got over the JZ.
3
@-SP. Agree piano black plastic isn't great - but it isn't as hard to clean as reviewers often make out - even polishing scratches out of it isn't that difficult.
3
@shrekshaw4790 Oh I totally agree that many Chinese EV manufacturers are way ahead of the rest of the world, & brands like Tesla are really in trouble once Chinese EV's become readily available in the US and Europe. Geeley is not one of them though, their products are generally poorly developed and barely functional - probably less so in the car space than the commercial vehicle space. I think the fact they struggle to make decent products is why they are busy buying up other brands so they can badge-engineer like they have with this Lotus.
3
Well, they are apparently wrong with the 0-60 performance - by 2/10ths of a second at least.
3
@m4d_mark_xtr3me79 Punitive tariffs don't work in the modern globalised economy - unfortunately the orange dude doesn't understand economics - or anything else really - oh well, sucks for US manufacturers and consumers I guess - at least the US economy seems to be resilient enough to weather the stupid for now. Agree, buying an EV thinking you are saving the planet is retarded - it can make sense economically for some people, but thinking you are in any meaningful way decreasing your environmental impact is pure delusion. Sadly Elon Musk is happy enough to try and sell that spin even though he no doubt knows better.
2
@Omgiamsotriggered Given how much they cost it's OK I guess - but you can get much cheaper 4 cylinder engines that can hold the same power just as reliably.
2
You realise Volvo is Chinese now?
2
It's not a Lotus, it's a Chinese built Geeley with Lotus badges on it. Look it up.
2
The "new" G series sucks just like the old one - in other news, water is wet and fire is hot.
2
Love your attitude and enthusiasm - and your car is awesome too!
2
@RAY.POLARIS Looks like a men's urinal to me. Actually they should swap names as Uris is closer to urinal than cybertruck.
2
Sad there won't be the 4.7 litre V8 or the various inline 6's anymore though.
2
Mercedes and Audi appear to have bought the cheapest sensors they could find for the automated emergency braking systems. Not really surprising though given how cr*p their products are these days.
2
@Raphael_Campos Everyone wants a seventy thousand pound iPad on wheels that will be obsolete in 3 years apparently.
2
@winstonchurchill9985 Well I'm an old b*stard, my first car was a Triumph, and that thing was thrown together like a pile of garbage - haven't owned any Japanese, German or American vehicle as poorly built as what British Leyland were pooping out during the late 70's. Still loved that car though. IMO vehicle manufacturing hit a peak in the early 2000's - then came the GFC in 2007 and things really turned then - I think that's when most of the major manufacturers bought hard into that planned obsolescence model - and you are right part of this is driven by consumers always wanting the newest, shiniest thing/latest tech etc.
2
It's not surprising at all - the finer the tolerances are, the quicker something will cease - therefore all this demonstrates is the UZ engine is probably engineered to higher precision than the N62.
2
Chinese car pretending to be English vs German car pretending to be Italian... what a sad world we live in.
2
@brannigansinchina I'd much rather have one of these pick me up than a stretched limo - every stretched limo I've ever been in has been utter garbage.
2
They really should use a proper drag strip though - concrete runways are about the worst surface you can race on and both of these cars would probably be nearly a second quicker on a proper track.
2
@carstenhansen5757 The point is, this is a mediocre offering in a now crowded market segment full of better, cheaper options that despite being better and cheaper, are also failing to sell at the moment. I'm afraid they are probably doomed to repeat history and disappear in a few years like they did last time, leaving their customers with unsupported lawn ornaments once they break down.
2
Turbo-chargers - which is also why this thing will demolish any V12 Mercedes coupe.
1
Rather have a Giulia.
1
That Huracán's GPS system being tied to the engine management system is everything that is wrong with modern cars.
1
Finally understand why every. f*cking. tesla I see is white! Because the buyers are too cheap to option a more interesting colour! Unacceptable that such an expensive car should only be available in white unless you want to spend thousands more on a different colour.
1
@ToutVaBien55 I'd agree true on the resale value (white or silver always sell easier than any other colour - because people are boring) - but has I've owned dozens of cars of all manner of colours (and shamefully my current car is white) - colour makes no difference to interior temperature as far as I can tell. My wife even has a black car, and it's just fine in 30+ degree summer heat.
1
The A45... when you paid way, way too much for an unreliable, uglier version of a GR Corolla.
1
@lilmoesieable Mercedes are shit.
1
@Omgiamsotriggered Yes it's certainly one of Mercedes best efforts in a very long time. I guess you always pay the 3 pronged star tax on anything from MB.
1
@01gtbdaily30 I'm somewhat familiar with them as they are fairly common on New Zealand roads, & I've owned a fair number of JDM Toyotas myself over the years - but didn't realise they were so specialised. Guess it was a different time back then, now days manufacturers steal everything they can from the parts bin to save money.
1
Replace Lotus with "Geeley" and "Are you sure" with "this feature is half baked and doesn't work properly because this car is cheap Chinese j*nk" and you have it right.
1
All three of them are dumb as a sack of hammers.
1
Good grief, harlequin paint - feels like 2004 all over again.
1
@robertkisby3170 Yes, at least according to Harry from Harry's Garage it is now legally required to default to on - AND they are working through legislation to make it impossible to disable in the near future! Crazy f*ckers!
