Doesn't look like he's going much faster than the traffic flow to me. Says in the blurb at the end he'd just got new front tires, possibly the shop sprayed silicone on the tire walls to make them shiny, which of course gets on the tread and makes the tire slippery as hell particularly in the wet. Some shops are clueless. Could be a bunch of other issues caused by the new tires or tire shop too, or maybe he should have got his rears done too.

Yup, total asshat driving like that in heavy traffic. Also why the fuck is his car vibrating so hard under acceleration? Really should get that looked at. The next two chuckleheads are even worse, and you get to see what can happen when you lose it.

@warrenny True, but just pointing out that there could be other factors involved. Most people have no understanding of physics, and yet can still drive a 2 ton death machine at 80mph legally - scares the fuck out of me.

@cabomix Used to go off the driven wheels - the logic being if you are applying power in the wet, the powered wheels need the most traction or you will end up understeering for FWD, or over steering for RWD - but if you are just ploughing down the freeway like this, makes more sense to have better grip in the back - then again under heavy breaking the front tyres do more work so you can make an argument to go front for shorter breaking distances. Really just make sure all your tyres are good, you don't have any alignment issues causing uneven wear, pressures are correct and even, and you rotate them regularly so they all wear evenly & replace them all at once - but that's too much to ask for your average dope who treats their car like a kitchen appliance I guess.

@79RockShox Yup, not just bald tyres, cheap tyres too. I live in a sub-tropical climate so we get a lot of rain, but I don't often have to deal with snow unless I go looking for it - so I can get away with running performance tyres all year round - I run Michelin Pilot Sport 4s's which are by far the best road tyre I've ever come across.

@cabomix Yup, I do realise this, which is why I stated "Used to be that..." - meaning back in the 90's. Still think if you can't keep your tyre wear even, particularly on a vehicle with only 1 driven axle - you aren't looking after your vehicle properly.

@rickjones2534 I think you are confusing silicone sprays with water based tyre shine, which are very different. Silicone spray will make your tyre wall nice and shiny, it'll also form a pretty strong covalent bond with the silicone in the tyre compound, plus it's nonpolar and therefore extremely hydrophobic and will last for ages even in the wet and is slippery as fuck. But hey, don't take my word for it, I only did level 7 chemistry at Uni - so I'm not exactly a chemical expert, just know a bit more than say, you. Back in the 90's it was the thing for tyre shops to spray tyres with silicone spray, until people realised how dangerous it was and water based tyre shine became readily available.

@UFC_Buffalo Tyre shine is fine - they are generally water based and won't make much impact on wet grip - it's silicone spray you have to watch out for as it's extremely hydrophobic. Back in the day tyre shops would use silicone spray because tyre shine wasn't really a thing - I've not seen it done for a long time though as there is a huge amount of proper product on the market now.
