  2.  @pearljessica  Yep. We're still benefiting from the huge network of pipes (gas, sewage, water etc) that they laid. And the houses they built are so solid still. My Victorian house was 103 years old when I had to replace the original stopcock.

  3. He's talking about the Codified law (Roman law) of Europe versus the hodge-podge Common Law of the UK. Big legal cultural difference for the UK and the EU.

  4.  @5ur113  Indeed. Although 40yrs of European hegemony didn't tempt us! It's not just the laws though, they are very different systems of legal administration. Many different CL jurisdictions are networked with ours. Millions of lawyers and judges would have to retrain. Easier to scrap the individual laws that aren't useful.
