@stanspb763 Yes, indeed, you're right about the way Russians feel about Gorbachev. And, disgracefully, the West let him down and the Russian people. It's hard to know how else, apart from a bloody coup, the USSR's regime could have been terminated at that point. Gorbachev had the unenviable role of being a good guy in the eyes of the West, and a traitor in his homeland. He must have known that before he took the steps he did. I still think he was a good man of courage and vision, who took the fall for the sake of his country. I also agree in regard to the endless misrepresentations we continuously hear from the politicians and their media.

@hannannah1uk Yes, I agree. This self righteous generation of politicians since Thatcher have been inward-looking, concerned far more with their own careers, their optics, and being in the right club. Their dismissiveness towards others's concerns and needs is indiscriminate. One of the top richest countries on the planet where some 27 million citizens and growing are officially living in poverty and need to use foodbanks? For starters.

Is this why the 'Great Reset' is reportedly founded on communitarianism? To eradicate this terribly destructive cultural narcissism?

@22448824 My first thought too.

@thefootballgeek2345 God! Our species is full of skanky vermin...

Yep. Complete with frequent sniffing. So off putting. The lady should invest in some tissues and USE them before she gets in front of a mike. Edit: On closer observation, it's some sort of nervous tic coupled with articulation which is out of sync with her breathing. Still, incredibly off putting.

@Gethin Hooper This was my implicit agreement with #StuartBlandford and #N/A that this was a waffle piece. The young lady is a member of the 'zoom class' and doesn't show any appetite for supporting the class which she claims is being eroded. It could be argued that the Getty/Kardashian 'aristocracy' has, by dint of their rule-breaking has consigned itself to the sinbin of history. Their entitled selfishness is very let-them-eat-cake and none of us will forget it. The 'yeomanry' of which she speaks has an ancient and proud tradition of being the sensible backbone of UK society and a protector/supporter of those of lesser station/ability. I honestly think that they'll still be around, willing and able to continue keeping things running when the Gettys and Kardies are fleeing their mansions in their gilded coaches pursued by the mob. Note the c.1 million good people who immediately volunteered to the NHS's call for community assistance in March/April 2020 - and actually got things done . This is a force to be reckoned with. Anything other than appreciation and gratitude could well be seen as undermining and fearmongering IMHO.

@HampsteadOwl Well put. Thank you. Simon Stevens was de facto a politician, schooled in the US healthcare system before he came back here. We need leaders who can put the care back into healthcare and who are keenly and positively responsive to their paymasters, the citizens of the UK.

Yep. This is on the gvt. But the gvt and the NHS play a tag team thing. Gvt doesn't order them to sort out their eyewatering number of clinical mistakes if they'll keep shtum about the decreasing funding.

So very well said. thank you.

<sigh> please stop the creep of vocal fry. PLEASE. (You know who you are.) I simply won't be able to listen if it continues.

@Thomas...191 Oh, out here in real life outside the overeducated, malcontent head-spinning world of the social mediarati there certainly is a majority who couldn't give a toss about wokeism and just won't comply no matter how much they're bullied. There is an unspoken consensus.

@mikegray8776 Well said.
