NHS guy blaming non-covid patients for not coming forward during lockdown for the reason they can't give any figures for waiting list. Typical. Non-covid patients were frightened witless about 'protecting the NHS' and the high levels of intra-patient covid hospital transmission. This guy is so defensive and whiny. How dare he attack the interviewer. He's a public servant in an organisation that is failing patients badly, a modicum of humility would behoove him. Apologies would be a good place to start.

@mesolithicman164 Well, someone doesn't like these hard truths being expounded here. My second post has been deleted. It praised our military and mentioned the en aitch ess cock up in respect of their inability to get it together to organise the volunteers they called for at the start of lockdown and turning them away in their hundreds of thousands. Performance. Or, rather, non. But, hey, at least NHS Guy has a nice big warm office and a good dollop of taxpayers' money going into his bank account every month. That's what matters. These people live in a bubble of their own....

@susangemmell9401 In a very well-crafted and concise nutshell, yes. I've heard Charles Moore (and perhaps Douglas Murray) say very similar. That the NHS has replaced Christianity in UK. I believe that it's more like a national form of Stockholm Syndrome.

Meanwhile, the collusion with gov to serially reduce service funding over the last 13yrs or so has resulted in a £multi-billion money-grab from taxpayers, a very large proportion of whom are already living paycheck to paycheck. No wonder they're increasingly ill and diseased in their droves. Never mind, that dynamic certainly secures the jobs of NHS Guy and his paper-shuffling mates. There's method behind the madness!

@mesolithicman164 Indeed. All budgets are - or should be - designed to minimise costs. But the minimisation must be in the right places - the low impact spending, the luxuries and, in any public service, the political campaigning. I won't get started about 'chest'-feeding, NHS blogs that harass white patients to accept their racism and read critical race theory books, pregnant people...

@mesolithicman164 NHS inefficiency questions from the public? Oh, yes, please - the more the merrier. Whilst we're at it, can we have questions about the culture? The whiny, denying, defensive, attacking, bullying one?? An open, black-box culture would be hugely more efficient.

John Major's upfront, plainspoken condemnation of Bojo's lawbreaking the other day was a welcome tour de force from another old school Tory. Perhaps Sir John should be encouraged to speak out on many more of today's ills...
