Awww, Lex, ignore the haters....anyone with any sense at all can see that you're a good guy through and through. It does my heart good to know that there are young men like you in the world.

Superb conversation, a sublime melding of high intellects and good hearts.

Wayaye! So well done that Geordie lass! A brilliant discussion and a brilliant, immensely inspiring woman. My Pelaw grandpa, who became a teacher, and millions of Geordies in heaven are cheering her on...

@Scott-tm9ml It's like a guy in our church, my best friend's brother growing up. He was bright, qualified in law. But went to work for one of the world's biggest arms manufacturers. WHY? he was asked frequently. His answer: "Because if I didn't do it, someone else would." Effin gobsmacking the justifications human beings give themselves for supporting evildoing.

A most edifying and insightful interview there. Thank you! You always have such wild guests! May we look forward to seeing future guests in your new, au naturel studio?

Richard Haier: 'In everyday life are some people more conscious than others?...Are those the people we might label as more intelligent?' WOW! You mean that there really might be NPCs wandering around? Or Zombies even? (It's always seemed like it to me, even way before we found those labels...)

@andrew8212 LOL! I immediately visualised a wiggly row of 6 apple halves! Blimey, what sort of aberrant brain is that!!

@andrew8212 So very well said. I'm sad to hear you felt like a failure. Quite obviously, you aren't: you made it to the top! Not your failure that your thinking was deformed by a culture deformed by its insatiable desire for power and money. Your stellar multinational company career was merely your apprenticeship! Congratulations on finding your metier! I used to think I was hard done by: parents who were completely uninterested in their children's futures. Had to find my own way, set my own goals, follow my own interests and passions without externally imposed limits or expectations. I've had a fascinating portfolio career, it's taken me all over the world, I've met and worked with fascinating and really top people, earnt a lot of money - though it was all very daunting in the early years. I guess what we're both indicating is that there are no 'right ways'. But you have to find your dream and follow it because it's your life, no one else's.

@ukjebb2356 Yes, you'd think that would be a good solution. I saw a docu about a year ago which carefully explained why it would be practically and economically infeasible unfortunately (at least with the technologies we have currently). Forgive me, I can't remember the name or producer. It would likely be on this platform.

The benefits of love ('social good') are not measured because love cannot be monetised. Love is beyond priceless and yet is valued to varying degrees only in its poor simulacra.

Yes, I did a double take at that. Compassion literally means 'suffering with', walking along side another in their struggles, having empathy with them and doing what you can to salve their hurts and be of positive use to them. MaybeJBP is talking about the way some people interpret and practice 'compassion' these days...?? Like Ms Markel's compassion for humanity whilst having none for her her family ?l LOL!

No, really, please don't. Unless there's subtitles. My hearing is bad enough. Can't do that level of speech difficulty+Eastern European accent. People like him and Furedi and Hitchens literally hurt my ears.

That's one I'd pass on.
