  1.  @pmrose18  I guessed there would have been a backstory. But there have always been laws that police can use to move people on, stop them loitering. The immensely disturbing and sinister aspect here is that she was arrested for just thinking.

  2. Exactly this. They brought the problem on themselves and now expect customers to help solve it. But then I find all the supermarkets have got too big for their boots - it's as if they don't like customers now, like we're an inconvenience.

  3. I too was was with the brilliant (truly) Bulb, now Octopus since the takeover. Last week they sent me an email saying that they just REDUCED my monthly direct debit to £95/mth (same as in the good old days). Well insulated, gas ch, 4bed house, I now live in the kitchen (at 15C) with 8hrs in bedroom at night (14C). The insane net zero plan to scrap gas heating will render almost everyone into serious poverty. Meanwhile, very happy with Bulb/Octopus - very customer friendly and ethical. (SO unlike the rest)

And, yes indeed, their use and abuse of language presents problems for many people in a country where the average reading age is 9-11 years old. And that's before we count people with dyslexia and other reading issues. So much for 'inclusivity'.

  8.  @enkisdaughter4795  During my uni time years ago, I made a special study of High Functioning Autism (used to be called Aspergers). I was convinced then that most people demonstrate some autistic characteristics and behaviours. That's not necessarily a negative. In fact, what we call HFA has probably contributed a great deal to the benefit of society.

  19.  @muzzthegreat  You highlight a key difference. Stalkers target individuals - and the police are not interested in individual victims. The woman who was arrested for perhaps thinking/praying was perceived to be committing a crime against an element of the prevailing ideology.

  38. Thank you for that, Elizabeth. I've lived in rural areas for 12 years now. I'm very familiar with 'country life'. Including brown outs. I have an induction stove which I love because it's quick, clean and efficient. I do a lot of cooking. Here's the thing....this last couple of weeks there have been periods when things have not heated/cooked at their normal high speed and intensity. In fact, my first thought was 'brown out'. Yesterday's announcement of power cuts made perfect sense in this context. In other words, they've already started rationing power without telling us. This tells me that our situation is much worse than they're letting on.

Meanwhile, I'm looking into hay boxes and other means of cooking. You gave me and all of us here a great intro to hay box style cooking! We really do have to look for cheaper, sustainable alternatives now...

  47. Well said. Thank you. I find it somewhat perturbing that the founding law and the letter's construction have not been contextually examined on this channel. But we have been advised not to make comment on the case because the Attorney General put out a memo invoking two forms of contempt of court. Neither of which apply given that there are no court proceedings.
