@eagleowlish The scientific research strongly suggests that 80% or so of people just don't spend any time thinking about anything much (badly paraphrased, my apols). There's the problem. That and schools don't teach British Constitution now.

Equal opportunity has been replaced by equity of outcome. An impossibility. So the brighter folks and the most able are excluded, marginalised in order to level down.

Just a note that the Seville Statement on Violence (1989, formulated by a panel of widely international psychology and behavioural experts for UNESCO) declared that '...wars begin in the minds of men; peace also begins in our minds... it is scientifically incorrect to say that war or any other violence is genetically programmed into our human nature'. Creating hell on earth is a conscious choice arising from negative aspirations and cultural norms. 'The responsibility lies with each of us'. (IMHO those who aspire to power are the very people who should not be allowed to have it.) This statement has been widely construed as a denial of the concept of 'human nature' which is an excuse for all sorts of mayhem!

@ericrawson2909 To be frank, I think we're almost at the point of anarchy covertly. e.g. only 6% of all crimes are prosecuted; everyday I hear yet another report of some public service or other breaking the law (to gain gvt cash incentives for target achievement), or indulging themselves in blatant negligence. Then there are the many employees who are refusing to go back to work in the public service's or company's office. We've seen the NHS 'unsafely' 'treating' children with experimental drug regimes and surgically altering their bodies (thankfully only just stopped) - will any of those doctors be prosecuted?? Human rights are ignored every day of the week for many in the UK. The list is sickeningly long. No one is really talking about it, but as a nation we're way, way off track...

@Vgallo Yes, I thought about the benefits of being almost braindead and on autopilot all the time! Despite the advantages of being a NPC, I think being able to think is better. I'll look out the reference for you, and post it back here.
