Whether we like it or not, we have to take the time to review published, new theories. I think it was around 1874 that Georg Cantor published a research paper on his concept of set theory. For a long time, the paper was rebuked and challenged, by leading mathematicians. Nearly 100 years later, elements of Set Theory were standardized within every leading 4th-generation Computer Language. In my public school, when I began the 2nd Grade (in the year 1972; here in New York State), the math textbooks we were issued taught Set Theory. However, before the end of the school year, it was announced that the teaching of Set Theory would be discontinued, in favor of teaching pints/cups/quarts/feet/inches, instead. I have always thought that my entire mathematical education was "set back", by about 10 years, as a result of that administrative decision. It wasn't until I got to college that I started to "make up for" the educational damage that had been done.
