What pains me is that when I watch a General Patton movie, or a Montgomery movie, no mention is made as to how intelligence (provided by Bletchley Park) contributed to their battlefield success. Also, the contribution made, on the battlefield, by the proximity fuse (when used in artillery barrages) is never mentioned in such movies, either. Such movies merely contend that both generals owe their entire battlefield success to their knowledge of battlefield maneuvering and to their capability to project their bold personality.

This historical account sounds like it would make a great, modern movie. Big name actors, looking to make a privately produced/directed movie, that they would likely star in, should consider this story. The story touches upon the explorer's scientific motivation to collect data that might improve Europe's weather forecasts. The explorer rents a WW1 submarine from the US Navy (at $1 per year), and outfits it with scientific equipment. He makes this Arctic underwater journey during the era of lighter-than-air dirigible airships. The screenplay should probably include how he grew-up in Australia, how he self-taught himself to be a pilot, and how he met his (fellow Australian) wife.

Over and over again, you will sooner or later hear someone say that the French are famous for always surrendering. Can someone tell me why this is?
