Well, Thoughty, I've been looking at this whole what's-the-best-battery issue for quite a while, and I still think that it will turn out that METAL/OXYGEN (i.e. batteries that use atmospheric Oxygen) will ultimately be the best and most economically viable Battery Technology for powering things such as Electric Vehicles. Indeed, if we base such batteries upon Aluminum (for the metal), then it's easy to imagine the task of RECYCLING the Aluminum (once it has been sufficiently degraded from use.) However, I do agree that the implementation of Solid Electrolyte (as a means to prevent dendritic shorting) sounds like a pretty good idea.

  2. About a week ago (here in December 2023) my furnace crapped out, and the interior of my home was a delightful 30° F for an extended period of time. But guess what else crapped out? That's right! Both my iPhone and my wifi Hotspot device. WHY? Well, it turns out that, when their Lithium batteries hit 30° F, both devices behave as if they have ZERO charge. However, as soon as Standard Room Temperature is reestablished, both devices suddenly resume operating at 100% charge.
