I fail to understand why the UK couldn't just bung all the tech in the body of an Airbus, which the UK part owned, instead of trying, and failing, to utilise the body of a Comet, designed in the 1940s. That's part of the reason why the UK is currently in the doldrums economically, and will be for some time yet.
