  1. It's more complex than merely dodgy manufacturers and dopey MOD procurers - yet that possibly plays a part. The UK's 6 D45 destroyers are pretty damn good and hence are expensive. The French make do with a variety of 'frigates', some of which are not exactly great. South Korea have a belligerent, nuclear-armed enemy on their borders, that might ease their procurement issues. They also have conscription, they also have more competitive ship building yards as they're building a fair few of the world's ships! In real terms UK defence spending has been down for years.
