@heinedenmark It seems so straightforward doesn't it? Why make it difficult? National pride? It's good to have your own indigenous, boffins and manufacturing, yet we can't afford it every where these days.

European nations are developing good systems, hence a lot of ppl comment on why can't we buy them? Germany is outproducing us on things like shell manufacturing, The Norwegians are making missiles a lot of nations want, UK included, the UK has just bought Archer. We've worked with Germany, France, Spain and Italy. NLAW? Giraffe radar? There are lots of great European systems in use and more in development.

It may be the UK has to buy US systems to appease their current president. We have Starstreak, we have Martlet, BAE etc can produce decent rapid fire guns and radar. Yet, if buying US systems stops tariffs and, who knows, Trump might start demanding more Scottish real estate?!? Best not to give in to him, I guess, yet history tells us we cave in the American wishes, no matter what govt they have.

Italy and France did exactly that. They've sent one system to Ukraine. It's based on PAAMS and Aster I believe. Google it yourself.

@ashleygoggs5679 They are what we have, what our allies have, they work, they are working in Ukraine. None of this is a "bit of a stupid comment". As I said in my stupid comment there are cheaper systems, they are developing more cheaper systems, but until you have lots and lots of them you use what you have available. I'll try and make it simpler. Imagine you're on a plane coming in to land at Heathrow and there's a drone that hits you and you and 200 other passengers plummet to your death. Would you rather someone had used a million pound missile to take out the drone, or would you be angry so much had been spent saving your life? Now imagine you're a ukrainian soldier under an accurate artillery barrage, would you like that artillery to be less accurate? Maybe you could take it down with a cheaper system, if there's one available, maybe they're not so good though. I feel my commenting is wasted, so I will leave this here and not bother replying. @bjorn2625 You won't if you're rich and you opposition is poor AND you use other systems too. You must know they use those Gepards anti air artillery? It was all over the news when they were sent. Well, there's other systems like that too. Besides, you take out a $1000 dollar drone that's artillery spotting for the enemy with a $million dollar missile - what happens to the artillery spotting? It stops until another drone is up. If you're under that artillery,and you're an expensive system you are very happy, and you can relocate.
