  2. My grandad was in Normandy fighting the fascists. He was a Royal Engineer and as such was sent to disable some mines with tripwires strung across one of those country lanes they have there. Apparently, they were told no Germans were there so he and his pals only took their penknives with which to cut the wires. As they walked round a corner a German patrol in an armoured car, bristling with weapons, came along. Both parties saw each other at the same time and took to their heels! Thus my grandad was spared. I loved his stories.

  3. I have one in the loft. My grandad was a Royal Engineer in the war and had to deal with these, and other mines. Thankfully, the one I have lacks the nasty stuff.
