  23. It is no as straightforward as this guy is suggesting. The logistics would be immense. It's a completely different system and the spares and repairs takes a whole load of mechanics. The UK alone cannot simply send 300 tanks, they haven't got them, that's why the Leopard 2 is needed as there's 2000 or so of them in Europe alone, plus all the spares amongst several militaries and the factories that can produce the parts. The Ukrainians would rather prefer one extra type of tank to maintain. I'm all for giving them equipment they can use to defeat the enemy. I don't think Challenger 2 is it. Same for Abrams, although there's a lot of them, it's complex and the engine isn't exactly diesel.

Conservatives axed carriers as soon as they got in govt after 2010, Illustrious and Ark Royal were axed before the QE class came in. The Ark Royal 5 years early! Illustrious was to be preserved yet it was chopped up. HMS Ocean was sold just 4 years after a major refit. Defence spending still isn't as high as it was under Blair in real terms, despite recent spending. Look at the size of the army. Troops cut. Still, if you want to spend on military something else has to go, usually. We have to fight alongside others these days unless we face a small foe.

The BBC stepped up during Covid and immediately started education the children that couldn't get to school. That's just one of the ways it is still vital. No other channels did so much, so quickly.BBC4 still has good stuff on, tune in tonight for D Day, history and travel. Not too much because people aren't tuning in enough!

Their militaries may not be strong yet that's why they join a powerful alliance. I would turn your question on you - why would Russia want to risk it all attacking Nato? Cut teh Naval personnel, cut the air force personnel. 2015, papered over some of thos cracks, but still a lot of what they said they'd do did not materialise.

They said they could live like kings for tiny ammounts of money. I'm quite chuffed about them (I'll probably slide off the road next time I'm out now). We don't get the bad weather that other countries routinely get, so there's little need for winter tyres. The Harrier was political cuts like we've been seeing for the last decade. I find it absurd to cut troop numbers before we've got effective drones/robots. We've also just seen the peacetime role the army serves. Plus, the UK's AI and cyber capabilities are 5 years behind and suffer up to twenty times less funding than our adversaries and Johnson thinks we'll be a world leader? From what they determine we can ascertain what are new funds and where they are purported to be going. For instance: if you personally deduce that at the end of this parliament that there hasn't actually been a large, or 14%, increase in the defence budget, would it effect how you vote... assuming you are a UK citizen and can vote.

The French make do with a variety of 'frigates', some of which are not exactly great. South Korea have a belligerent, nuclear-armed enemy on their borders, that might ease their procurement issues. They also have conscription, they also have more competitive ship building yards as they're building a fair few of the world's ships! In real terms UK defence spending has been down for years.

However, try and understand how EU nations view UK laws after the UK has voted to leave the EU and most of its various laws. Already, several major EU nations have said they won't have bilateral asylum returns with the UK. There is a deal with Albania though.

And when they have got that, and Russia finally realises they cannot inflict the damage they want with the missiles they have, they'll attack something else - like Europe's gas lines etc... which it appears they're already doing. Putin and his supporters need to go before they start a far larger conflict, because if that conflict starts it can turn nuclear. Putin, I believe, has gone mad and paranoid with power. Some very large charities have a CEO who is responsible for hundreds of millions; you don't want someone bad in charge hence you pay market value for someone with skills, expertise, experience for that role. The greater number of charities have smaller turnovers and don't need someone so well qualified. The Oxfam guy was a bad apple, he's not representative. Charities are not an arm of government. Neither are NGOs - clues in the name.

MP's voted 322 - 261 to not extend the free meal scheme to Easter '21. In work families get extra benefits to make up for low wages. Universal Credit has been nightmarish for many, people have died from illness waiting for their ESA benefit. The UK is moving further away from being an equitable society. I want to be proud that where I live is more fair and just, yet it's getting worse and a lot of the press want to blame foreigners, despite the myriad of stats that describe (in detail) that immigrants are a net benefit to the economy and do the jobs a lot of us won't. Go to any hospital, see who's working there. I know quite a few ppl who have left the UK because of the way it's going; I used to think they ought to have stayed here to make it better. I now wonder if I should've gone with them.

He abuses the system, misused taxpayers money and repeatedly makes wild lies. He increased his majority at the last election. He's not alone. What argument did I lose? That India has hungrier kids that us? Of course they do, poverty is far worse there. But for a wealthy nation to have our levels of poverty, especially in-work poverty, is immoral. And yes, I have lived under the poverty line. Not that that should make any difference.

It's costing Russia enormous amounts of money. Western defence systems are more advanced so it takes less of them to hit their targets. Russian doctrine is artillery-heavy, and a large number miss or are duds. Still, they are effective, hence their recent, very-limited advances.

As I said in my stupid comment there are cheaper systems, they are developing more cheaper systems, but until you have lots and lots of them you use what you have available. I'll try and make it simpler. Imagine you're on a plane coming in to land at Heathrow and there's a drone that hits you and you and 200 other passengers plummet to your death. Would you rather someone had used a million pound missile to take out the drone, or would you be angry so much had been spent saving your life? Now imagine you're a ukrainian soldier under an accurate artillery barrage, would you like that artillery to be less accurate? Maybe you could take it down with a cheaper system, if there's one available, maybe they're not so good though. I feel my commenting is wasted, so I will leave this here and not bother replying.
