Not all atheists did become atheists. I more or less always have been. I wasn't born believing in any gods, and nothing any religion has done so far has made me start. Putting people's atheism down to fear is pretty condescending.

@moerivera6659 You don't read minds. These are thoughts and motivations you've imagined. You only ridicule yourself when you try to argue by making things up about your opponents.
1
@moerivera6659 I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but the scientific consensus is not that the universe was intelligently designed. The arguments for your position aren't so flawlessly convincing that anyone who hears them is immediately convinced. You have a chip on your shoulder that would be worth dropping. Some people really do just disagree with you. You should have the sincerity to acknowledge that.
1
@moerivera6659 I don't think I said you were intending to convince anyone. I don't seem to have insulted you, either... Whose comments have you been reading? The conceit you've expressed is that the evidence of your position is so convincing that anyone who isn't convinced by it can only be deliberately avoiding it to serve an ulterior motive. You haven't just shared your thoughts. You've tried to tell others what theirs are. You have a chip on your shoulder, and it has you arguing very dishonestly. We could have a proper conversation if you dropped the chip. Ending your disrespectful comments with a perfunctory "much respect to you" isn't compensating for it.

@peggylittledragon7734 There are atheists who've read the Bible...
1
@peggylittledragon7734 Why?
1
@johnphantom That would also make you an atheist, according to the definition.
1
@johnphantom "read the definitions and try to understand them." This isn't terribly useful. It's a smug nothing. Perhaps you should instead tell me what it is you think I've not understood, or consider that I might understand something that you don't. Do you think that might be more productive?
1
@johnphantom That's lacking belief.
1
@johnphantom It isn't, though. The definition you just cited makes that clear. "a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods." If they were the same, there wouldn't be a disjunctive between them. What you believe about the possibility is irrelevant. Belief that there is a god, is what we're talking about, and you don't have one of those.
1
@johnphantom That's not what the definition says. You keep coming back to belief in possibility when it's not mentioned anywhere as a qualifier in the definition you cited. Believing it could be true is irrelevant. Unless you believe it is, you're an atheist. That's what the definition says.
1
@johnphantom I could curse you to Hell right now, if it'd put this point to rest. I don't see how it would conflict with my atheism, though, since I'd be using a turn of phrase...
1
@johnphantom That still doesn't stop you being an atheist.
1
@johnphantom Right. Both of those describe you.
1
@johnphantom Pay close attention: I understand what you're saying. It's just wrong. Atheists can curse people to Hell. Also, what do you think an agnostic being a person has to do with this? All three of them say "a person". We're all people, here. This isn't a relevant qualifier.
1
Duh. Who is death fun for...?
1
@Rotisiv Do you think atheists find death horrifying?
1
They don't, though.
1
@dxsolate A club telling gay people that they're evil doesn't attract many gay members. Would you expect it to?

Wwe

I refute him thusly...
1
@dxsolate How would he know, though?
1
@Akirex5000 Him not having it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
1
We don't believe things just because we want them to be true. That's called "wishful thinking".
