No broadcast TV speech announcement, or White House press conference. Was the decision for speed (as in to get over with it quickly)? Or he was really sick at the time (I remember he recently got Covid before that)? *by suddenly I mean the decision was made without any leaks or whatnot, no journalists/news knew beforehand about it. I know there were huge conversations about the possibility of him dropping out. IIRC, many top government officials were also blindsided by the news.
