There's only one definition - countries mostly from ex Warsaw Pact are Eastern Europe, others are Western, even if they're on the south or north, because this is a political, not geographical classification. It has exceptions, like what to do with Yugoslavia, but in political terms ("west" also could be defined as capitalism), YU was eastern, as well as states it broke into. Germany could be in both worlds because of DDR, but since eastern part is annexed/joined western, it is western. Anyways, this division is greatly outdated and has no sense today.
