@lmaoroflcopter I have never heard of this "recipie" in continental Europe. It is not about "bad US driving schools", that's some sort of UK specific thingie.

Interestingly enough, some classic cars from 70s used to have "dimmer" block that would make turn and brake signals dimmer when the headlights are on.

@lmaoroflcopter once again - that's nothing but UK specific, quite perverted rule. Not a common practice. My comment above doesn't state it not being a codified rule, but does address lack of sense in it.

@lmaoroflcopter "I'm stating the fact that people should be using their handbrake when stationary, that people should not use their foot brake?"" they shouldn't. What people should do is to watch forward not to crash into a car on a red light. Road safety is not a personal thing, it is a collective effort. Idea with a handbrake is pure nonsense, like wearing a racer's helmet in a regular passenger car or having seat belts in a city bus - "what if there's an accident?"

Quite typical thing in ex-USSR like 20 years ago. And I'm pretty sure it is still produced. Very convenient, because you can take it with you on a trip in case you want a cup of tea and there's no kettle around.

@kabj06 that's quite interesting, because power difference is just 45/50 - 55/60, not so much. I suspect that shape of reflector plays bigger role.

@mikeholland1031 exactly the opposite: during night time turn/brake signal that is relatively bright, also blinds others. So you need it to be bright enough to be remarked when the sun shines, but at the night they could be 50% dimmer.

@tarryfingert "Extremely hazardous, but I guess in Soviet Russia water boils you?" hah, nope. The really dangerous variation from army is 2 razor blades separated by 2 matches bound together with a string having cord attached to them.

I'm wondering, how can you regulate humidity in whole house from one spot of humidifying. In my house, well... flat I'm living in, air flows from windows into the vents in kitchen and WC. So by placing humidifier in one room, you can humidify air in it, corridor and the kitchen. But that's it, no more.

Well, it makes sense in the old paradigm of having not so many dishes. With dishwasher you need full set of dishes for entire day, some older people don't do that. But yeah, it is still just narrow-sight thinking.

Oh my, the design with single brass V shaped contact seems to be so poor :( Lot of european wall plugs have brass contacts preloaded with a coil spring, so those do not become as loose with time, and thickness of a rod doesn't matter that much as well.

Well, besides making the tea or using electric kettle to pre-heat water for cooking, in Asia people often use boiling water to prepare noodles and that is even more "must have" than for tea-drinkers.

0:10 - wow, Volga - my favourite brand. That was unexpected one to see in the US video. Ha, 4:31 - Soviet Chaika there, from same manufacturer. And yes, these headlights from 50s and 60s are with replaceable bulbs so one can put in H4 halogens quite easily. 23:00 - sometimes I see black stickers on headlights of cars in Europe that got imported from Japan that cut off this left part that blinds the ongoing traffic. So less light for you, but at least no hazard to others. Probably, they adjust headlights higher as well in this case.

Regarding conservative's motivation: my parents use to say they don't like dirty dishes sitting in there around waiting until the evening to turn the machine on. Regarding "why, what so wrong about it" - I guess, they still use old paradigm - dirty dishes get dried up, so it is harder to clean... but that's not the case with dishwasher :D Some sort of mental short-circuiting. When I just bought good old Bosch, I have recorded indications of meters for water and electricity and compared two months. Taking into account water/electricity/tabs price, it was 0 output (win in water/electricity, lost on tabs), but... I HAVE WON MY TIME. And higher wash quality for sure. There's no way you can clean these corners of cup handle or the bottom by manually as well as dishwasher does. Temperature is higher, chemicals are stronger.

@tarryfingert Well, I got it, just notifying something even more spooky from these places :) But yeah, I have used these soviet "1 cup boiler" thingies (last time somewhere in 2010 in dorm of uni), the biggest hazard is you grabbing it after use, forgetting about it being hot; or dropping it on a table, so it can melt the nasty spot on the surface. It is not like it would shock you or smth.

Quite often (it depends on specific design for sure) you can turn standard opener 90 degrees (parallel to the table) and cut off the lid from the side.
