  1. Well, it makes sense in the old paradigm of having not so many dishes. With dishwasher you need full set of dishes for entire day, some older people don't do that. But yeah, it is still just narrow-sight thinking.

  2. Regarding conservative's motivation: my parents use to say they don't like dirty dishes sitting in there around waiting until the evening to turn the machine on. Regarding "why, what so wrong about it" - I guess, they still use old paradigm - dirty dishes get dried up, so it is harder to clean... but that's not the case with dishwasher :D Some sort of mental short-circuiting. When I just bought good old Bosch, I have recorded indications of meters for water and electricity and compared two months. Taking into account water/electricity/tabs price, it was 0 output (win in water/electricity, lost on tabs), but... I HAVE WON MY TIME. And higher wash quality for sure. There's no way you can clean these corners of cup handle or the bottom by manually as well as dishwasher does. Temperature is higher, chemicals are stronger.
