Quite typical thing in ex-USSR like 20 years ago. And I'm pretty sure it is still produced. Very convenient, because you can take it with you on a trip in case you want a cup of tea and there's no kettle around.

@tarryfingert "Extremely hazardous, but I guess in Soviet Russia water boils you?" hah, nope. The really dangerous variation from army is 2 razor blades separated by 2 matches bound together with a string having cord attached to them.

Well, besides making the tea or using electric kettle to pre-heat water for cooking, in Asia people often use boiling water to prepare noodles and that is even more "must have" than for tea-drinkers.

@tarryfingert Well, I got it, just notifying something even more spooky from these places :) But yeah, I have used these soviet "1 cup boiler" thingies (last time somewhere in 2010 in dorm of uni), the biggest hazard is you grabbing it after use, forgetting about it being hot; or dropping it on a table, so it can melt the nasty spot on the surface. It is not like it would shock you or smth.
