@sirmeowthelibrarycat NUM Horden Branch, but was on some of the Yorkshire picket lines which were constantly attacked by the 'Met'. The NCB/British Coal was too big, a monolith of huge proportions. Staff had become lazy through lack of control, as happened in all previous state run organisations. Steel, NHS, Education, Transport, BBC were all inflicted with the same malaise. Even after privatization it was the same staff with the same attitudes that spoiled the industries. Now we see greed rearing its ugly head again in those industries with staff numbers large enough to put pressure on an already stretched economy. How strange that these industries are the ones that are, or once were, nationalized. So it wasn't really Thatcher's fault, it was something that had to be done, and she had the guts to carry it through. Lets hope Truss has the same courage
