@doughesson Back when I was in high school, one of the stock pitches used by the Air Force recruiter assigned to my school was that if you're not going to college, you should enlist in the Air Force, because unlike every other branch of the service, only their officers get shot at. (It isn't true, but then, very little a military recruiter at a high school says ever is.)

@doughesson Nope. Nor the enlisted crew on cargo aircraft; they're not combatants as such, but they sure get shot at. (For that matter, being a maintenance technician at a rear-area airbase is no guarantee.)

Well, that's nostalgic. I remember seeing these in my grandfather's stack of Shooter's Bible backissues when I was a kid (the same ones where I first saw gold-damascened Llamas) and thinking it would be super cool to have one. Never saw one in person, though.
