I see people comparing the rules jockeying involved with this gun to Formula 1, but it reminds me more of Can-Am racing in the '70s, specifically the controversy around the Chaparral 2J "fan car" (which was banned specifically because teams other than Chaparral complained to the SCCA that their own cars' inability to beat it would make the sport "boring"). To be fair, the same thing did happen in Formula 1 a few years later, but Can-Am got there first. :)
