France had less tanks than Germany. The only reason they had more artillery was because artillery was the fundamental part of French military doctrine, while it wasn't nearly as important to Germany. This is due to different lessons taken from WW2.

@Crashed131963 I know; I was agreeing with this argument. Though admittedly you point is odd. You realize the US had more carriers in 1942 than what participated in Midway, right? For instance there was the USS Wasp, which was in the Atlantic during that time either hunting for German subs or transporting supplies to Malta.
