The Taliban couldn't be defeated not because they were strong but because they were aligned with the locals . USA's plan to build up Afghanistan so that the rural population would abandon it's fundamentalist views failed because schools cannot convince people to change their way of life The west defeated Russia in 1991 , they'll do the same now
