Invade Venezuela placing a semi authoritarian government with us backed policies and funding it floods the world market with incredibly cheap gas and oil hurting the russian budget . Use the CIA to spread corruption into russian institutions , especially the financial , judicial and educational ones . This doesn't necessarily have to benefit the west but it would lower trust and the efficiency of these institutions . distract the russian leadership from these issues via political play occasionally going on various concession and deliberate blunders . On the world market invest in russian competitors in various fields . Increase sanctions and engage in massive cyber attacks against russian banks . Within a couple of generations Russia will go bankrupt and fall behind the west in a lot of scientific fields . A chunk of the population wi be fed up with the corruption and demotivated to ahcive anything . The ruble would be a very unstable and weak currency . In this context you could probably get an isolationist guy into power who would make concessions with the west and probably be forced into agreements with neighbors with whom it has conflicts , the west lessens pressure on Russia meaning the isolationist guy creates and illusion of progress and prosperity . With this situation the West could encourage reigme change in Belarus and central Asia and most likely gain new members , pretty much all of Europe except Russia ,Switzerland , Austria (maybe) and Serbia .
